Everybody Is Not On Broadband© Copyright Darrell Anderson. I would like this page to serve as tweaking the noses of all those web designers who think everybody is on broadband. Everybody is not. I visit only a fraction of the sites I might otherwise visit because I refuse to wait 2 to 5 minutes per page for all of those image maps and off-site images to download. I detest using JavaScript for page layout. I detest web designers who use flash as the link to enter the remainder of their web site and provide no dialup-friendly method to do otherwise. I detest any web designer too lazy to create a browser-independent web site. I am not interested in your perspective of providing a user experience. If I wanted that I would visit Disney World. I want information. I am not impressed with how much knowledge one possesses, I am impressed with how people use knowledge effectively. Postscript: I am now on a broadband connection and my opinion has not changed. Actually, my opinion of basic web page design has grown even more cynical now that I have the bandwidth to browse the web more speedily. Many web designers seem to spend an inordinate amount of time cramming web pages with bandwidth stealing garbage. My solution? I continue most of my web surfing practices from when I was on dial-up. And to the best of my abilities, this web site will always remain dial-up friendly. Finis. |
