Linux Stability© Copyright Darrell Anderson. One of the common claims from Linux proponents is Linux is far more stable than Windows. After migrating to Linux one can say good-bye to the infamous Blue Screen of Death. Yeah. Sort of. My Mandrake 9.0 Linux system crashes a lot. Not the Linux kernel, but KDE or some other desktop component or program. Konqueror continually crashes. I have witnessed total freezes, and although there probably is a back door in Linux to investigate to kill processes, to the new or home user the issue of Linux stability is a moot point. A crash or a freeze is non-productive, regardless of the point of fault. To the end-user there is no difference. Does “Linux” crash? That depends upon how one defines “Linux.” Finis. |
