A GRUB Splash Image for Slackware© Copyright Darrell Anderson. (Spring – Summer 2008) Many Slackers noticed with the 12.1 release that Lilo came packaged with a splash image. Although GRUB is offered as an Extras package in Slackware, no official support really exists. Regardless, I thought that Slackers using GRUB should have a splash image too and such a conversation transpired at Linux Questions. Gilbert (gnashley) provided all the grunt work. I take no credit. Yet one thing led to another and eventually I had a revised SlackBuild script to create a GRUB splash image. Nothing dramatic — just one of those little things that prompts a smile.
Use the same source files for GRUB that already are in the Slackware Extras tree. To be safe, create a separate directory for this build. Just copy the Extras GRUB directory to a new location. Then copy the files included here into that new directory. If you use these files be sure to update the tmp variable in the SlackBuild script. After installing the updated package (use upgradepkg and not installpkg), remember to install GRUB correctly. Files: Finis. |
